Who is Iansan in Genshin Impact? Character kit, ascension materials, and more

Iansan is one of the oldest Genshin Impact characters revealed, first appearing in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail trailer when the game launched. Players expected her to have a major role in Natlan’s Archon Quest, but despite being the only known Natlan character for years, her role in the storyline was limited.

Now, Iansan is finally playable, joining Ningguang as one of the only 4-star characters from the Travail trailer. As a bodybuilding coach from the Collective of Plenty tribe, she is a powerful 4-star Electro support, offering ATK buffs, healing, and a 40% DMG Bonus with the Scroll artifact set. This guide covers Iansan’s kit, talents, passives, and the materials needed for her ascension and talent upgrades.

Genshin Impact: Iansan’s combat and passive talents

Genshin Impact - Iansan running

Normal Attack: Weighted Spike

Iansan’s normal attacks are pretty straightforward. She performs three consecutive normal attacks using her polearm. Similarly, her charged and plunge attacks are basic, like those of most other polearm characters. However, if she is in the Nightsoul state, her charged attack becomes special, allowing her to move faster and deal damage to targets in her path.

Elemental Skill: Thunderbolt Rush

Iansan dashes forward, dealing Electro DMG to enemies in her path and gaining 54 Nightsoul points. After using this skill, her next Normal Attack within 5 seconds triggers a Swift Stormflight stomp without consuming Stamina.

While in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, Iansan’s Nightsoul points gradually drain. This state boosts her Movement Speed, and holding sprint activates Thunderbolt Rush, giving her a temporary speed boost. In this mode, she can leap off terrain or consume extra Nightsoul points to move across water or liquid Phlogiston without taking damage. The effect ends when she runs out of Nightsoul points or uses the skill again.

Elemental Burst: The Three Principles of Power

Iansan stomps the ground, dealing AoE Electro DMG before summoning her Kinetic Energy Scale. This grants her 15 Nightsoul points and activates Nightsoul’s Blessing. The Nightsoul’s Blessing state remains active as long as the Scale is on the field.

The Kinetic Energy Scale follows the active character and boosts their ATK based on Iansan’s stats. If she has less than 42 Nightsoul points, the bonus is based on both her Nightsoul points and ATK. If she has at least 42 Nightsoul points, the Scale enters Ardent Support! mode, providing a stronger ATK buff based on her ATK alone. Additionally, the Scale tracks the active character’s movement, restoring Nightsoul points to Iansan based on the distance traveled. The Scale disappears when Nightsoul’s Blessing ends or if combat stops for over a second.

First Ascension Passive: Enhanced Resistance Training

When Swift Stormflight hits an opponent, Iansan gains the Precise Movement effect for 15 seconds. This increases her ATK by 20% and enhances her Nightsoul point regeneration.

While Precise Movement is active, every time Iansan gains Nightsoul points from her Kinetic Energy Scale (from her Elemental Burst), she gets 1 extra Nightsoul point. Additionally, if the active character consumes or restores Nightsoul points, the next time Iansan restores Nightsoul points through the Scale, she gains 4 extra Nightsoul points instead. This special effect can trigger once every 2.8 seconds. Precise Movement ends when Iansan exits her Nightsoul’s Blessing state.

Fourth Ascension Passive: Kinetic Energy Gradient Test

When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Iansan gains the Warming Up effect for 10 seconds.

While this effect is active, whenever Iansan restores at least 1 Nightsoul point, she will heal the current active character for 60% of her ATK. This healing effect can be triggered once every 2.8 seconds.

Night Realm’s Gift Passive: Hard Work and Drive

When Iansan runs out of Nightsoul points while on the field, she will use Phlogiston to maintain her Nightsoul’s Blessing instead. If she is in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics in Natlan, she can activate Nightsoul Transmission: Iansan under certain conditions.

When the active character is sprinting, using movement abilities, or airborne at a certain height, switching to Iansan will activate Nightsoul’s Blessing and restore 25 Nightsoul points. This effect can be triggered once every 10 seconds. Additionally, in areas with Phlogiston Mechanics, Iansan takes reduced fall damage when leaping off terrain.

Utility Passive: Caloric Balancing Plan

While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, regain 10 Phlogiston when Phlogiston levels drop below 50%. This can occur once every 10s.
